Naledi Day 4 – Marketing
Day four of the Naledi workshop brought with it some challenges and unexpected changes. Due to unforeseen circumstances at the previous venue, we had to relocate the workshop to my mother’s home in Naledi! The garage will now be our learning hub for the next four weeks, proving to be a unique setting for our participants to engage and collaborate on their business ideas.
Kicking off the day with the homework presentations, participants had the opportunity to showcase their understanding of the Lean Canvas by applying it to their own business ideas.
Refilwe is the founder of an academic after-school support center for primary school children. Her goal is to create a safe and nurturing environment where students can receive the additional educational support they need to excel.
Tami is a registered nurse with 40 years of experience, who is now in the process of starting a community clinic offering primary healthcare services. The Lean Canvas model helped them both to identify potential strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in their businesses.
After a short break, we dove into the heart of marketing with a focus on market analysis. The class learned about the importance of analysing the industry, competitor analysis, sizing and segmenting the market, and defining their target customers. Proper market analysis allows entrepreneurs to make informed decisions on how to position and grow their businesses in a competitive landscape.
Next up, we explored the Seven Ps of marketing. This framework consists of product, price, promotion, place, people, process, and physical evidence. Each of these components was discussed in detail, allowing participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of the different aspects that contribute to a successful marketing strategy.
The Naledi workshop’s fourth day was a testament to the resilience and adaptability of our participants. Despite the change in venue, everyone remained focused and engaged, eager to learn new strategies to help their businesses flourish. As we continue with our workshop series, we look forward to watching these budding entrepreneurs transform their ideas into successful, sustainable ventures.
